Internal Family Systems (IFS) Coaching
You know what you want. So why does something keep getting in the way?
Maybe you have a goal you've been circling for months — a career change, a creative project, a relationship you want to show up differently in. You have all the intelligence and drive you know you need. But every time you get close, something pulls you back. A voice that says it's not the right time, a fear you can't quite name, a habit of second-guessing yourself right when it matters most.
This isn't a motivation problem. It’s an understanding problem. And that's exactly where IFS Coaching comes in.
What is IFS Coaching?
IFS Coaching applies the Internal Family Systems (IFS) model to the challenges of everyday life and personal growth. Where IFS Therapy focuses on healing deeper wounds from the past, IFS Coaching is forward-focused — we start with where you are now, and work toward where you want to be.
That said, IFS Coaching goes deeper than conventional coaching. Rather than just setting goals and building accountability, we look at the inner landscape that shapes your choices, your confidence, and your sense of what's possible. Often the most powerful shift isn't learning a new strategy — it's understanding why a part of you has been resisting change, and helping it finally feel safe enough to let you move forward.
What’s unique about IFS Coaching is the two-way street of internal understanding. You can understand with your mind all the things you need to know - your patterns, your history, your strengths and weaknesses. But the part of you that holds you back is doing it because it believes it’s actually helping you by doing that. It’s using tools that were probably, at some earlier time in your life, incredibly helpful. Once you can truly listen directly to that part, and validate all the ways it’s trying to help, the part that’s holding you back can finally start to understand you. That’s the two-way street of understanding, and that’s what sets IFS Coaching apart.

How is IFS Coaching different from IFS Therapy?
This is a question I get often, and it's a good one. Both coaching and therapy use the IFS model, and in practice the line between them can be fluid. The main difference is one of focus and depth.
Therapy tends to go deeper into the past — working with parts that carry old wounds, trauma, or pain that needs healing before you can move forward. Coaching tends to stay closer to the present — working with the parts that are creating blocks, resistance, or conflict around your current goals and circumstances.
In my practice, I find that coaching sessions often naturally touch on deeper material, and therapy sessions often address present challenges. What matters most is where you want to start — and we can always adjust as we go.
