Thomas Florio

Psychotherapy and Artist Coaching

My approach

I work exclusively with the Internal Family Systems (IFS) model, originally developed by Richard C. Schwartz.

In the IFS view, each one of us is made up of many internal Parts - some Parts are protectors, some Parts are being protected, but all of them are good.

Each one of us also has a Self at our core that can never be damaged or destroyed. Your Self is your confident, curious, calm Self - the real you. The goal of IFS therapy is, by connecting with your Self, to get to know each of your Parts individually. We work to learn about their good intentions, their desires and fears, and to give them the hope and help that your Self provides.

Artist coaching

In addition to my broader work in mental health, I also work specifically with artists to help them understand and overcome the very unique challenges that they face. As an opera singer, myself, I know many of those challenges firsthand.

Whether you struggle with a cruel inner critic, debilitating performance anxiety, or any kind of inner voice that’s holding you back, we can befriend that voice and learn from it - and in doing so, free you to be exactly the kind of artist you want to be.

Thomas Florio is an ideal coach for artists, not only because of his personality and skills, but also because of his own extensive experience as a singer. His ability to create an atmosphere of trust during sessions helps you look inward, gaining valuable insights about yourself that can support your artistic life moving forward.

About me

I'm a Certified Internal Family Systems Therapist, and a licensed Heilpraktiker für Psychotherapie.

In 2011, I moved to Germany from my native United States to continue my career as a classical singer. After many years of living in Germany and singing across Europe, I decided to expand my focus and use what I had learned in my career to provide support for other artists and English-speaking expats. In 2021, I earned my license in Germany, and opened my therapy practice in Berlin.

I work with clients from a broad range of backgrounds and careers, from tech industry professionals to government workers, medical professionals, therapists, and beyond. I especially love working with artists -  opera singers, instrumentalists, actors, dancers, directors, and more - at both the pre-professional and professional levels. I dedicate myself to meeting my clients exactly where they are, and helping them grow in the way that feels exactly right for them.
